Lee Broad has long been active in community and non-profit organizations, including churches, Habitat for Humanity, The Society for the Right to Die, the Boy Scouts of America, the Wall Street Planning Group, the Securities Industry Association Firm and Industry Analysis Committee, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Columbia University.  At present within the Napa, California community he served the last five years as Treasurer of First Presbyterian Church and simultaneously served on the church's Finance Committee, and Investment Committee. He is currently an Elder on the church's Session and serves onthe Capital Development Committee. When in town he is a tenor in the Choir.  He is a certified Stephen Minister and Stephen Leader and President of the Board of the Presbyterian Day School.  Mr. Broad also is a member of The Land Trust of Napa County and a working member of the Land Trust's Monitoring Committee, which oversees nearly 50,000 acres of land owned by the Trust or subject to an environmental easement agreement.  He is the immediate past President of the Board of Directors of "If Given a Chance . ..", a non-profit organization which provides scholarships to local youth. He is a member of the Sunrise Rotary Club of Napa, for which he serves as Community Services chair on the Club's board of directors.

 

Nancy Clark

Nancy has over twenty-fiveyears of systems, operations, and change management experience. Nancy dedicatesher efforts to helping clients anticipate, prepare, and transition their organizations for the future. Prior to opening her own consulting firm, Nancy was a principal with Arthur Andersen. She led the Northern California Enterprise Consulting Practice and also served as the Western Regional Directorof Arthur Andersen's School of the Future effort. Her passion is to help public and private education by bringing her organizational development skills to the learning industry. In particular, she worked with the Alameda Unified School District in the planning and implementation of the Arthur Andersen Community Learning Center, a collaborative learning environment that combines the best educational practices with state-of-the-art technology. She has consulted to Los Angeles Unified School District (1.2 million students), San Francisco Unified District, Orange County Department of Education and other school systems.

Nancy has served as a memberof the Industry Education Council of California and its Blue Ribbon Technology Committee; she has presented to the Governor's Council on Information Technology and she is frequently requested to speak at education and business conferences. She was part of the team that was honored with the 1996 Conference Board's "Best in Class" award for her work with Alameda. She previously served as the President of the Board for Alternatives in Action and the Bay Area School of Enterprise (BASE), and currently is the Board President for On The Move. She earned her B.A. degree from the University of California, Davis, and a MBA degree from the University of Santa Clara.

 

Brenda Flores 

Social Worker, Napa County Health and Human Services 

Brenda Flores primarily works as a social worker for Napa Co. Child Protective Services. She strives to keep children safe and protected while trying to reunify them withtheir families or help them achieve permanency by getting matched with a prospective adoptive family that can provide for their emotional, psychological, and physical needs. She has been working as a case manager for the past 2 years. Prior to working at the county, she worked as a group home facility manager at New Horizons Group Homes providing services for at risk male youth on probation for 4 years.

Brenda has worked in the Napa community with under served children and families as well as with at risk youth for the past twelve years out of which eight were served in a group home setting. Brenda also participated in "On the Verge" group 5 about 3 years ago further developing her leadership skills. Brenda then continued to stay connected with OTV's community projects by volunteering or participatingin projects taking place in the community. Brenda is currently contracted as a consultant for the On The Move as a coach for OTV's group 11 young leaders whoare working on the McPherson Health Initiative that will address the health disparities in the community.

Leslie brings 30 years of community organizing, organizational and administrative planning, coaching, and direct service to youth. She has served as executive director, primary development officer, board president, recruitment and admissions director, financial manager, and community builder. Leslie is the co-founder of Beacon Day School, Beacon High School, and Educational Implementers Inc. Additionally, she and Diana co-founded Alternatives In Action, HOME, Bay Area School of Enterprise, HOME Sweet HOME Preschool, Moving Forward, On The Verge, and On The Move.

 

Patricia Murillo

Patricia Murillo joined Alternatives in Action as Executive Director in April,2007.  Alternatives in Action is a youth development organizationcommitted to providing skills and opportunities for youth to be college, career and community ready.  Patricia was a senior manager for Alternatives inAction from 1997 to 2004 when she transitioned to serve as the Senior Director of Program Services for the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco. Patricia has eighteen years of progressive leadership in organizations serving children, youth and their families.  She has a Masters degree in Social Welfare(M.S.W.) with an emphasis on management and planning and a B.A. from Vassar College.  Patricia serves in a number of different organizations including the Advisory Board for the School Counseling Program of St. Mary's College, as the Program Chair for the Alameda Rotary Club and a member of the Board of Directors of On The Move.

 

Dale Anne Ogar

Dale Ogar has worked in the area of science, health and nutrition since her days at Michigan State University, where she majored in medical technology. In 1966 she moved to Berkeley, California and in 1972 she joined the Department of NutritionalSciences as the administrator of a human metabolic unit known as the"Penthouse". In 1979 she transferred to the School of Public Healthwhere she became a Principal Editor. In 1983, when plans were being developedfor the U.C. Berkeley Wellness Letter, Dale was named Managing Editor, aposition that she still holds. The Wellness Letter, now in its 22ndyear, is among the largest circulating health newsletters in the country, witha worldwide readership in the millions. Dale has also served as a writer, editor and consultant to a number of other health-related projects in theSchool of Public Health at Berkeley and has been a consultant to groups outside the University. She is the co-author of many scientific publications and is theManaging Editor of several best-selling reference books and three cookbooks.For many years she co-authored a widely read syndicated weekly column on food and health distributed by the Chicago Tribune Syndicate. She frequently participates in professional symposia and conferences, both as a speaker and observer. Dale has received the University of California's DistinguishedAchievement Award for her work in the areas of wellness. In 2001 she presented testimony before a White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine, advocating for more research, oversight and caution in this area. In 2007 she will begin serving as Program Director of the Bay Area Albert Schweitzer Fellowships.

Betsy Strauss

Betsy Strauss is in private practice specializing in local government law with an emphasis on land use law and municipal finance. She represents cities on a special project basis and is developing a northern California mediation practice. As part of her private practice, she serves as special counsel to the League of California Cities on a variety of municipal finance and land use matters. She was the League's principal legal consultanton the development of the recent ballotmeasures relating to the state/local fiscal relationship. Two of her current projects for the League are the legislative implementation of Proposition 1A onthe November 2004 ballot; and a housing element reform proposal. In additionshe teaches State and Local Government Law at Boalt Hall School of Law. Betsy has served as the city attorney for the cities of Napa, Fairfield, and Rohnert Park.

Sue is an Executive Coachand Management Consultant. She helps leaders improve their organization's effectiveness. She is highly skilled in team building, approaches to changemanagement, organization survey processes and meeting design and facilitation.Sue has over 30 years of experience in coaching, organization and leadership development. She has worked in leadership capacities at Pan American WorldAirways and at Levi Strauss & CO. where she worked for 21 years, serving asthe Director Human Resource Development. Sue started her executive coaching practice in 1997. The focus of her work is helping leaders understand the impact of their behavior on the way their organization operates. A graduate of Arizona State University, Sue has a Master of Science degree in Organization Development. She is a graduate of the Advanced Program in Organization Development at Columbia University and is a certified Executive Coach through The Hudson Institute of Santa Barbara. She has served as an adjunct professor at Holy Names College, Golden Gate University, and is currently teaching in the MSOD program at The University of San Francisco.


Charles Ugalde

Program Officer, United Way of the Bay Area

Charles Ugalde, Program Officer at United Way of the Bay Area, is a first generation, gay, Pilipino-Americanman who has a passion for real and meaningful connections.  He hopes to create spaces of honest communication so that funding supports non-profits and the communities they serve.  As a Program Officer, Mr. Ugalde implements community investment strategies that support children and youth, working families, and non-profit capacity building within Alameda and Contra Costa counties.  He connects the common work between non-profit organizations, private and public funders, and government agencies in order to strengthen communities.  Previous to United Way of the Bay Area, Mr. Ugalde was afield representative for an Alameda County Supervisor and a public benefits advocate for seniors.  Mr. Ugalde holds a Bachelors of Science inCommunity and Regional Development from the University of California, Davis.
