*My Story
- I am
An Asian American woman of Chinese descent, a daughter, a sister, a friend, and someone continually refining my personal vision of social change.
- I earn my daily bread
During the day, I am the production coordinator/communications associate at PolicyLink, a national research and action institute that works collaboratively to develop and implement local, state, and federal policies to achieve economic and social equity. After work and on weekends, I work as a fiber artist on my fledgling, one-woman business of handmade women’s accessories out of felted wool and Japanese textiles.
- How my leadership has changed as a result of OTV
Few people in this world have the privilege of learning how to be a leader in an intergenerational community of respected peers and mentors/coaches; the OTV community is that rare and unique type of community. OTV members and staff provide me with a network and practice space to develop my leadership abilities, as well as offer my skills and coach my fellow Vergers. Also, OTV has given me space to grow my voice; I would not have been able to articulate and relate to my peers and co-workers in a powerful and compassionate way if I had not joined OTV. My continued involvement in OTV is sustains me as I continue to hone my vision for social change.
- Where I’ve come from and where I expect to be in the next 3-5 years
After college, I knew I wanted to a career in the non-profit sector but felt directionless in terms of what I was interested in doing and what cause I would be most interested in advancing. My experiences within On the Verge and in the sector have focused my direction. After another year at PolicyLink, I will enter a Masters program in urban planning and consider a simultaneous Masters degree in business administration or public policy.
