*My Story

I am

Learning to be proud of what I have to offer the world. Filled with love for the life I am living and creating with my husband. Realizing that it will soon be time to take care of my parents. A Grown Woman. A social worker.

I earn my daily bread

I am currently sustained by what I call the passion, stress, dream, challenge, and puzzle of my graduate career! I am a first year social work student at San Jose State. I love it. I hate it. Often, I’ve got a few other colorful ways of referring to it!

How my leadership has changed as a result of OTV

Before OTV, I had lost faith in myself. Today, I am where I never could have even dreamed I’d be. I am the first person in my entire family to make it this far. I am a role model. I’ve shed a light on the power of education for my cousins, and for many other Latinas/os who struggle every day of their lives. I found power. I found my voice. I faced my fears. Most importantly, I appreciate what it means to be human, to make mistakes, and then get up and go forward in a positive way.

Where I’ve come from and where I expect to be in the next 3-5 years

I am certain that my life experiences are reflected in who I am, and how I am in relationship with others. In the next 3-5 years I am going to need my OTV community even more than ever. I will be working for county Child Protective Services. I know it will not be easy, but I am determined to do great work and make a difference in the lives of children.
