*My Story
- I am
A 26 year-old woman invested in supporting the leadership development and independent living of transitional age youth in Napa, California. I enjoy spending time with friends, taking long drives, playing golf, sewing and knitting.
- I earn my daily bread
As the program director for V.O.I.C.E.S. (Voice Our Independent Choices for Emancipation Support). I provide overall leadership to V.O.I.C.E.S. and its programs to create an intergenerational community center that employs youth development practices to support the successful transition of youth out of systems of care. I am responsible to develop and sustain relationships with community partners, both individuals and agencies, to centralize resources and provide comprehensive services for V.O.I.C.E.S. youth members.
- How my leadership has changed as a result of OTV
Having my first leadership experiences in the corporate arena I learned to meet the goals and objectives of an organization by using only my positional power. As a result of my participation in On The Verge I was made aware of and provided with a practice ground for how to use BOTH my personal and positional power to serve the mission of my organization. I continue to make a conscious effort to use my voice and power as a young leader to leverage relationships and resources to enhance the sense of community and hope in youth who often face the world alone.
- Where I’ve come from and where I expect to be in the next 3-5 years
I graduated with a BA in Psychology from San Francisco State University. Before deciding to commit to the non-profit sector I managed a retail store that attained the highest volume in the company and succeeded at being the first manager to achieve a $1 million annual sales milestone. I have been a founding member of the On The Verge Level 1 and Level 2 programs. In addition, I have been involved with On The Move as an administrative assistant, program evaluator and Verger. I have also had extensive experience in other organizations working with transitional age youth involved in the higher education, mental health, juvenile justice and foster care systems. In the next 3 – 5 years I expect to be in a Community Psychology doctorate program working toward attaining my PhD.
