Kristina Young

Kristina Young has worked as a muralist and fine artist, graphic designer and arts educator for over 15 years. She studied fine art, design, photography and art history at several institutions including: California College of the Arts (San Francisco, CA); University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada); Rhode Island School of Design (Providence, RI); and received her degree in painting and drawing from Richmond College (London, England).

Her passion for creative and socially conscious work led her to the Arts Council of Napa Valley (ACNV) where she has worked as Program Manager since 1999. Her work focuses on linking the community of Napa to the creative arts and to bring more exposure and opportunities to local artists. At ACNV, she oversees and develops several programs including: Arts in Education (working with teachers, PTA groups, local businesses and artists to bring arts learning to Napa County schools, after school programs, special events and festivals); Open Studios (facilitating an annual self guided tour of over 75 local artists’ studios and organizing the coordinating exhibition); and Revolving Door Art (working with local businesses to curate and install exhibits of artist members’ work).

As an artist, Kristina has painted numerous interior and exterior residential murals around Northern California and the East Coast. Her mixed media and collage work have been exhibited at several locations including: Napa Valley Museum, Yountville; Oaklandish Gallery, Oakland (in an exhibit presented by city/space); and Off the Preserve Gallery, Napa. Her work is also represented in several public and private collections including the di Rosa Preserve in Napa.

Since 2002, she has taught art to students at many Napa County elementary schools and arts organizations including: St. John’s Lutheran School’s Art Attack Week (Bookmaking, Story Writing & Illustration); Yountville Elementary’s Red & White Affair (Artist in Residence); Blue Oak Summer Camp (Bookmaking); Napa Valley Museum (Collage, Bookmaking); and Collage, Painting and Drawing classes through ACNV’s Arts in Education Program. She is currently teaching Visual Art at Salvador Elementary School in Napa with On the Move’s Arts Integration Program.

Kristina is also a member of “On the Verge” Group 5, based in Napa, whose common work currently focuses on bringing existing and new leaders together to work on building a vibrant and collaborative community in Napa County.
