Shelly McClain

Shelly has a degree in performance from San Francisco State University. She has studied and performed with Karol Lee of Gloria Newman Co., Chifra Holt of Alwin Nicholais Co., Terri Shipman of Jennifer Muller Co., Michelle Cafro of Martha Graham Co., and the Malashock, Limon West, and Tamute Companies. She was a member of Lynx Performance Co., San Diego, Spiral Arts Co., London, and Dunn-Razo Dance Co., performing in San Diego and New York. Shelly is now in her second season with U Dance Electra in San Francisco.

Along side her performance career, Shelly has developed a love for teaching dance. Through California School Fitness she taught in various public elementary schools throughout San Diego County. She has also taught through Stamp and Shout Dance Company (London, England), The Mint Theatre (Dublin, Ireland), Academy of Dance, (Encinitas, CA), Dunn Razo Dance Youth Co. (San Diego, CA), Performing Arts Theater for Handicapped (La Costa, CA), and New Moves Project at San Francisco State University. As a guest instructor she has taught at Mare Island Elementary, Vallejo, Presidio Hills Elementary, San Francisco, and Lowell High School, San Francisco. She is currently teaching at Salvador Elementary School through the On the Moves Arts Integration Program.

Shelly enjoys using multiple mediums and has performed in and has choreographed dance pieces using a mixture of spoken word, song, live music, literature, and improvisation. Shelly was awarded the Mira Costa College Dance Scholarship, was accepted as a member of the Association for Professional Dancers in Ireland, and serves as vice president on the board of directors for Dunn-Razo Dance Company.
