OUR MISSION
SummerSearch is a dynamic national non-profit organization that finds resilient low-income high school students and inspires them to become responsible andaltruistic leaders by providing year-round mentoring, life-changing summer experiences, college advising, and a lasting support network.
WHO WE ARE
SummerSearch started in 1990 in San Francisco and currently operates seven sites serving 730 students and over 1,800 alumni nationally. We are in the beginningstages of a national expansion campaign that will almost triple the total number of students served by 2012, towards a total of 2000 students.
SummerSearch North Bay was founded in 1998 and currently serves 115 students. The NorthBay office is in its second year of a five-year strategic growth plan to doublethe number of students served annually. For more information about SummerSearch visit our website at www.summersearch.org.

Job Summary
The Executive Director should beenergetic, strategic and capable at effective management, fundraising andtalent development in a time of exciting growth. As a key member of theorganization’s leadership team, he or she will work closely with the North Bay staff, leadership teams from the other Bay Area sites, Support Center Senior Management Team, Board of Directors and other local office Executive Directors.
Essential Duties and Job Competencies:
Programquality management - Usesall available data to make key decisions around quality control and program site goals as well as ensures staff training and development supports quality improvement. Supports site Program Director in providing training andsupervision to ensure a quality experience for all students. Partners with National Talent and Training Team to provide additional training resources.
Fundraisingand Development- Partners with site Board, development team and Support Center development staff to build and execute a sustainable annual site fundraising plan,including actively cultivating and stewarding individuals, foundations and corporations.
Strategic Planning and Execution of short and long-term goals -
Partners with the site Board, Support Center and site management team to develop and execute site-specific strategic plan that in line with and contributes to the organization-wide strategic plan.
Communication with key constituencies – Plays a key role in communicating Summer Search’s mission and vision to internal and external constituents in keeping with our values and in effort to build buy-in in a way that inspires them to work together to move the organization forward. These constituents include: Board of Directors, donors, referral partners, staff, students andalumni, summer programs and community partners.
Management and team building- Hires, motivates and develops all site staff. Builds a positive and collaborative team environment where successes are acknowledged and challengesare addressed in a direct and proactive way.
Partnership with the site Board of Directors – Partners with site board in identifying, recruiting and cultivating donors and potential new board members. Works withthe board to set and execute Summer Search’s strategic plan. Conveys relevant information about organization-wide goals and site initiatives in a timely manner that positions the board to effectively support the organization’s work. Builds effective and collaborative partnerships with the board chair and with individual committees.
Financial literacy and accountability - Partners with site board and Support Center Finance staff to build and manage both revenue and expenses associated with the annual site budget. Conveys understanding of the current financial picture of the siteas well as the whole organization to other key stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will bring many of the following skills and qualities to the role:
· B.A.required, Master’s or other advanced degree a significant plus.
· Atleast five years experience leading social or educational service programs with a demonstrated passion for youth and youth development field, especially in diverse, under-served communities.
· Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial and communication skills as well as fundraising and development skills.
· Proven track record of managing and expanding the impact and visibility of an organization/program.
· Demonstrated ability to create strategy and manage against strategic goals.
· Experience in hiring, managing, and evaluating staff.
· Demonstrated ability to fundraise through diverse sources such as grants, corporate sponsorships, individual donors, and events.
